General education
This website and its guides provide general information. They do not diagnose, treat or prescribe. Content has not been independently clinically reviewed. Do not use it to replace advice from a qualified clinician or registered dietitian.
Sardines and the sardine fast
Sardines can be part of a nutritious, varied diet. Evidence about a nutrient or about fish consumption does not establish the same benefit for an exclusive sardine fast. We do not guarantee weight loss, remission, a cure or a particular result.
Oily fish and personal circumstances
Follow current UK oily-fish portion guidance. Most adults should have no more than four portions weekly; girls and women who may become pregnant, are pregnant or breastfeeding should have no more than two. A portion is around 140g. Sardines contain fish allergens. Individual advice matters for gout, kidney disease, pregnancy, restricted diets and other health circumstances.
Medicines and individual needs
Speak with your healthcare team before substantially reducing carbohydrate if you take diabetes medicines. Do not stop or adjust prescribed treatment yourself. Seek individual advice for pregnancy, an eating disorder, kidney disease, food allergies or other circumstances that affect your diet.
Meal ideas and food safety
Meal ideas are not nutritionally analysed prescriptions. Adjust portions to your needs, check allergen labels and follow current food safety advice. Images illustrate the subject and are not proof of outcomes.
Urgent help
The website is not an urgent medical service. In a UK emergency call 999. For urgent medical advice, use NHS 111 or the appropriate local service.
